Mother wants to help 'good boys'

A 43-year-old woman recently laid off by a local plant needs some help with Christmas for her 11-year-old and 9-year-old children.

"I need help for my boys this year because they were good boys," the mother wrote.

She said her unemployment compensation ended early in October.

The mother has been trying to find another job and in the meantime is doing housekeeping to make ends meet.

A man who knows her said she is a hard worker who has just fallen on hard times.

Thanks to The Augusta Chronicle's Empty Stocking Fund, this woman will receive assistance.

The annual charity began in 1930. Last year, it raised a record $120,159.56, helping 1,233 families or 5,582 individuals.

The deadline to apply for assistance has been extended through Dec. 1. Mail completed applications to P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903-1928, or deliver them to the security station in the lobby of the News Building, 725 Broad St.
