EVANS, Ga. - Mr. Augustus Briscoe "Gus" O'Neal, 74, entered into rest on Sunday, November 19, 2006 at Doctors Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. today, November 22, 2006 at Platt's Belair Road Chapel, with Dr. Kevin Steele and Rev. Joey Vinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Abilene Baptist Church Cemetery, Evans, Ga. Robert Peebles, Bennie Oellerich, Roger Lord, Alvin Dickson, Tommy Giddons, Allen Gilbert, Joe Blanchard and Brian Newman will serve as pallbearers. Mr. O'Neal was a lifetime resident of Columbia County, graduate of Evans High School, a member of Abilene Baptist Church, a member of Martinez Masonic Lodge, a 32 year member of Electricians Local Union #1579, a member of the Briar Creek Hunting Club, the Winfield Beagle Club, was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved his Beagle's. He leaves behind his loving wife of 52 years, Joyce May O'Neal, Evans; daughter and son in law, Pamela O'Neal and Bill Backus, Martinez; son, A. Briscoe O'Neal, III, Evans; son and daughter in law, Barry Eugene and Mary Lu O'Neal, Aiken, S.C.; brothers, Clifford O'Neal, Tommy O'Neal; sisters, Juanita Gilbert, Frances Dennis; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
