Ballet's dance session was big success

I would like to thank the corporate and individual supporters of the Augusta Ballet Company for their support over the past six months. Because of them, the Augusta Ballet was able to offer its first round of free Master Class Series on Oct. 27 and 28 at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center.

The Augusta Ballet sponsored Karen Brown as master instructor for this session. Ms. Brown, a native of Augusta, is known for her tenure as a dancer with Dance Theatre of Harlem in New York City, and has enjoyed a long career as a dancer, educator, arts administrator and teacher. She was most recently artistic director of the Oakland Ballet in Oakland, Calif.

In attendance were more than 50 students from across the CSRA with a palpable spirit of excitement for the future. These students represent who the Augusta Ballet is committed to serving - students from any background eager to devote themselves to the art of dance. Ms. Brown did an excellent job in demanding the best from all of the students as they learned steps and combinations while keeping up the pace to the talented piano accompanist.

Supporters should be applauded for believing in the Board of Trustees to secure a financially sound base for the organization while realizing the fine art of dance in the CSRA.
