Outdoors calendar



All the listed events are open to the public, although membership in some organizations may be required.

SATURDAY: The inaugural Magnolia Springs Heritage Festival will be held at Magnolia Springs State Park near Millen, Ga., in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of the creation of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites. The festival will be held from 11 a.m. until, with a 5K race, home-cooked meals and other events. Call (478) 982-1660 for more details.

NOV. 12: The Augusta Canal National Heritage Area will celebrate its 10th anniversary with the dedication of a new bridge at the canal headgates area. Food, fun and other festivities are included in the event, which will be from 1 to 5 p.m. The inaugural opening of the restored locks will be held at 1:30 p.m. The public is welcome. NOV. 14: Rivers & Glen Trading Co. at Surrey Center will offer Session One of its freshwater flyfishing course from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with Session Two from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16; and Sessions Three and Four (including lunch) on Nov. 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call (706) 738-4536 for more details.

NOV. 17-18: A muzzleloader hunt limited to 100 hunters will be held at the 2,545-acre Bussey Point wilderness area at Thurmond Lake. Limit is two does and one quality buck (15-inch spread or greater). Check-in is required. Call (800) 533-3478, ext. 1159 for more details.

NOV. 21: The Sierra Club's Savannah River chapter will meet at 7:30 p.m. at Unitarian Universalist Church, Walton Way Extension, Augusta. Dr. Judy Gordon will present a PowerPoint program on her summer visit to Scotland, Ecological Adventures. The public is welcome. Call (706) 863-2324 for more details.

NOV. 25-DEC. 2: The National Striped Bass Association will hold its National Striped Bass Tournament from Columbia County's Wildwood Park at Thurmond Lake. Participants will compete for prizes. E-mail Ed Lepley at fishinbarge@knology.net for details and more information. The public is welcome.
