Georgene L. Carter (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga. - Ms. Georgene Louise Carter of Greenway Drive entered into rest on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at Doctors Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 6, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Sheffie M. Rouse officiating. Ms. Carter, a native of Augusta, was Salutatorian of the 1964 graduation class of A.R. Johnson High School. She receive a Bachelor of Arts degree at age 19 from Paine College and a Masters Degree from New York University. She began her teaching career at Floyd Elementary School and held successive teaching positions at Craig Elementary School and A.R. Johnson Junior High School. Upon relocating to Florida, she taught at Bethune Cookman, Florida Normal and Edward Waters College and became Chairman of the Education Department at Edward Waters College. She later retired from the Duval County Public School System where she served for several years as Elementary Instructional Administrative Supervisor. Survivors are two nieces, Patricia (Daniel) Carter Walker, Hephzibah, Andrea (Emory) Perry Jackson, Brooklyn, N.Y.; great-nieces and nephews, Darryl (Ann) Walker, Evans, Lisa (Dwayne) Jackson Bindschadler, Venice, Calif., Joya (James) Walker Trottie, Hephzibah, Charles L. Jackson, Danbury, Conn.; great-great-nieces and nephews, Cory Trottie, Patrice Trottie, Hephzibah, Patrick Walker, Christopher Walker, Evans, Nathan Bindschadler, Rachel Bindschadler, Miranda Bindschadler, Venice, Sarah Jackson, Aaron Jackson, Nicholas Jackson, Danbury; sister-in-law, Bertha Carter Walker, Augusta.
