Dallas Mavericks forward Josh Howard was fined $5,000 by the NBA on Saturday for shoving San Antonio's Bruce Bowen in a game Thursday night.
The 6-foot-7 Howard knocked down Bowen with a hard shove in the second quarter of the Spurs' 97-91 victory. Howard was called for a flagrant foul, penalty one.
On Saturday, the league fined Howard and upgraded the foul to a penalty two. A flagrant foul, penalty two is called for "unnecessary and excessive contact" and carries an automatic ejection, according to NBA rules.

Kobe Bryant scored 23 points in his season debut as Los Angeles beat Seattle 118-112 on Friday night, the Lakers' third win in as many games this season.
Bryant played 41 minutes and went 8-for-15 from the field. He had six assists and four rebounds.
