Churches act together to help needy
The longtime effort of one church to help the less fortunate has grown to include 28 churches this year in a massive fundraiser for the nonprofit Area Churches Together Serving.

PLEASE TELL Dr. Lonnie Randolph Jr., the president of the South Carolina chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, that protesting South Carolina's having the Confederate flag on state grounds, by holding its meetings in border states, is pretty ambiguous to me. Tell him to drive around Augusta's schools. Last I knew, the "flag" was flying high at Wheeless Road Elementary, for example.

After graduating from Milner High School, he worked at Warner Robins where he met Sadie Raley, his bride to be. The married in February 5, 1943 and he left for active military duty on February 13. After serving in World War II in the Pacific as a US Mariner, he returned to Georgia to a long career in sales and service as an equipment salesperson. He was a member of the Sisters Baptist Church. Mr. Clark was a member of Hamilton Masonic Lodge #58 F&AM, the Scottish Rite Bodies and was a 32 degree Mason, a member of the AlShiah Temple in Macon. FLORENCE, S.C. - Funeral Services for Mr. Lee Williamson, 84, of Old Mill Road, Florence, SC who died October 28, 2006 will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Bethel United Methodist Church. Interment in Jackson Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Williamson was a life-long resident of Jackson, SC having made Florence his home for the past three years. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Mr. Williamson was known in the community for his wide knowledge on a variety of subjects. Survivors include five sons, Joe Williamson, Tucson, AZ, Fred Williamson and Richard Williamson both of Florence, SC, Paul Williamson, Easley, SC and Alva Williamson, Darlington, SC; a daughter Kathy McCoy, Lake City, SC; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. MARTINEZ, Ga. - Entered into rest Friday, October 27, 2006 at his residence, LTC Henry Arthur Queen, 80, husband of Erika H. Queen. LTC Queen was a native of Savannah, GA and was raised in San Antonio, TX. He served during WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam. After retiring from the Army in 1970 with 26 years of service, he obtained a degree in Business Administration from Augusta College. He retired from Civil Service at Fort Gordon in 1986. LTC Queen spent his retirement gardening and enjoying time with his loving wife, children, and grandchildren. He was always willing to help others and gave advice freely. He will be missed.
