Put Thigpen on Columbia commission
The privilege to vote and actively participate in the political process has always been special and important. Columbia County's growth continues to create new and expanded opportunities and challenges. Never before has it been so critical that we seek and support individuals who will be effective and dedicated leaders. It is out of this circumstance and my personal knowledge of Ron Thigpen, a candidate for Columbia County Commission District 1, that I write this letter.J. Pierce Blanchard Jr., Grovetown

May I remind everyone that the Richmond County Sheriff's Office is not just the first line of defense against gangs and local crime. The sheriff's office is also the first line of defense in local homeland security. If terrorists were to attack Augusta, the sheriff's office would be front and center protecting the citizens of Richmond County.James P. Florida Jr., North Augusta, S.C.
Politicians are stealing the truth
This is truly the season of liars, cheats and thieves. Politicians at all levels are hard at work again lying to us and cheating us out of the truth. I'm tired of politicians treating us like idiots and playing with some Americans' ignorance. I'm tired of outright lies and half-truths from all politicians.A. Dale Boyd, Evans
Darfur deserves more media attention
I believe there is an issue which deserves at least some coverage in The Augusta Chronicle. I am a subscriber to the newspaper, and I never see information about the Darfur region of Sudan. I'm sure, as editors, you know the story I speak of. We are facing genocide.Claire Hollins, Evans
