CHARLES WITHERS II

STATS: 19, Augusta Technical College student

WHAT: Avid bowler

HIS STORY: Charles, or C.W. as his friends call him, was born in Heidelberg, Germany, and has been bowling for 13 years.

"I was just bowling with my parents so much, I just got involved in it," he said. "I just took it to the next level and became a good bowler."

Charles has earned more than 100 awards and participated in about 30 tournaments, including the Georgia Games, where he took the bronze medal.

He's twice bowled a perfect 300, the first time when he was just 15.

"I was so nervous on my last shot," he said. "After I threw the last shot, it felt so good."

On Feb. 11, he bowled his second 300 game, this time in a local tournament.

It's not the rings he gets for perfect games that drive him.

"Competition, really," he said. "And it's a great sport to play. I mean, very challenging, very easy to teach and learn."
