Laurene Hummel ( AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Sunday, October 22, 2006 at her residence, Mrs. Laurene Barnes "Geechee" Hummel, wife of the late Dr. John Emile Hummel. She is survived by her daughters, Kathryn L. Hummel of Augusta, Mary Lynn H. Satterwhite of Bristol, TN., Mela H. Evans of Augusta, Margaret E. Hummel of Augusta; her sons, John Emile Hummel Jr., of Augusta and Christopher Lawton Hummel of Hilton Head, SC.; and six grandchildren. Geechee was a native of Estill, SC., but grew up in Savannah. In 1938 she moved to Augusta to attend and graduate from the Barrett School of Nursing in 1942. She retired from the V.A. Hospital after 18 1/2 years as a registered nurse. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She loved all of her grandchildren. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at 12:15 p.m. at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. Timothy Donahue celebrant. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the University Hospital Nurses Alumni Assoc. The Vigil and Rosary will be Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends until 8:00 at Thomas Poteet and Son. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
