Virginia V. Youmans (EVANS, Ga.)



EVANS, Ga. - Mrs. Virginia Videtto Youmans, age 89, of Evans, entered into rest on Sunday morning, October 22, 2006 at Brandon Wilde. Born to Pickens Hall and Alice Humphrey Videtto on July 7, 1917, she was a native of Burke County and had been a lifelong resident of Augusta. She and her late husband, Charles Arthur Youmans had resided in the Brandon Wilde community since 1996. Mrs. Youmans had taught public school within the Richmond County School System, at Richmond Academy, Tubman and Langford Middle Schools, from where she retired in the mid 1960's. Following her teaching career, she maintained her membership with the Georgia and Richmond County retired teacher's Associations. Her love of her Southern Heritage enabled her affiliation with the National Society of the Daughters of the American Colonists, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the National Society and Georgia Division of the Magna Charta Dames, the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, descendants of John Alden Kindred of America, Inc., the Mayflower Society and the Colonial Dames XVII th Century. Until her health prevented, she remained active with the Richmond County Historical Society, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, the Cranford Flower Club where she had served as corresponding Secretary, the Augusta Country Club and the Augusta Genealogical Society. A charter and lifelong member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, she had been a member of the Smith Class, the United Methodist Women and had served as the church Historian. In 1996, she authored a much coveted book titled; History of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, 1926 - 1996, "A Church with A Vision". She was preceded in death by: her husband of 62 years, Charles Arthur "Art" Youmans, who passed away in March of 2004. She is survived by: their daughter, Alice Youmans, Atlanta, GA. Funeral serviceswill be at 2:00 pm, on Wednesday, October 25, 2006, from the graveside in Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Steve Dodson, of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, on Tuesday, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez.
