Andrew Mercer (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Andrew "Andy" Jackson Mercer, age 61 , entered into rest on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center. A native of McDowell County, Welch, West Virginia, he had resided in the Augusta area since the early 1960's. Mr. Mercer had retired from International Paper in 2004 after 28 years as a Machine Tender. During his School age years, Andy was an accomplished Football and Baseball player. He had attended Richmond Academy in Augusta. A follower of the Advent Christian Church, he was a member at East War Advent Christian in War, WV and he had attended Bethlehem Advent Christian in Augusta. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He is survived by a daughter, Miranda Lynn Shuman, Augusta, GA; a son, Christopher Lee Shuman, Augusta, GA; 2 sisters, Sandra K. Mercer, Augusta, GA and Garnett Durkee, Grovetown, GA; an uncle and aunt, Donald E. and Mary Tunnell, Augusta, GA; cousins, Mrs. Iris Lloyd, Martinez, GA and Donnette Gustafson, Columbia, TN; a niece, Renee Silverman, Long Beach, NY; 2 nephews, Brian Sloan, NASC and Kevin Sloan, Augusta, GA.; 2 great nephews, Aaron Sloan and Blake Sloan. Memorial services will be at 6:00 pm, on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at the Bethlehem Advent Christian Church, 1815 Central Avenue, Augusta.
