Edmund J. Hayes (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Monday, October 16, 2006 in Thomson, Ga., Mr. Edmund James Hayes Sr. of Augusta. Family members include his daughters: Cherry Lynch of Jewell, Ga., Catherine H. Sumner of Evans; eight grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren; sister: Frances Rosser of Atlanta and sister-in law: Lola Beth Hayes of Foley, Alabama. Mr. Hayes was a native of Clarksburg, W.VA but grew up in the Atlanta area. He joined the US Army Air Corps at a young age and spent the next 28 years traveling the country and the world. His first love was flying, his second was his wife, the late Mildred B. Hayes, and his third love was his children. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel; serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He continued to fly, working as an instructor and pilot for Augusta Aviation. He was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Augusta. A memorial service will be held Saturday,October 21, 2006, at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Rev. Thomas Peyton officiating. Full Military Honors will be accorded. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.
