Alvin W. Gilchrist (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Rev. Alvin W. Gilchrist entered into rest on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at University Hospital, Augusta. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 3719 First Metropolitan Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Enoch Ward, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Friday, October 20, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. Gilchrist was a native of Burke County, Ga. and at a young age, later moved to Augusta. He retired following 40 plus years as an auto mechanic. Rev. Gilchrist ministered throughout Georgia and South Carolina and was currently serving as assistant pastor at First Metropolitan Baptist Church until his untimely death. Survivors include a devoted wife, Ola M. Gilchrist; daughters, Gail Coleman, Niranda T. Gilchrist and Alvitene Gilchrist; one son, James L. Gilchrist; one sister, Elease G. Brinson; two brothers, John E. Gilchrist and Frank Eunice; grandson, Jordan A. Lamar; stepdaughter, Ernestine Butler; twostepsons, Kenneth Turk and Steven A.
