Grover C. Hollowell ( AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest on October 18, 2006 at University Hospital, Grover C. Hollowell, Jr., 86, beloved husband of Frances C. Hollowell. Mr. Hollowell was born on August 21, 1920 to Grover C. And Palistean Hollowell in Aurora, NC. He graduated from Wofford College in 1941 and served in the United States Navy during WWII as a lieutenant. After WWII, he spent most of his career (31 years) as a claims adjuster for MIC a branch of General Motors. He was a resident of Augusta since 1964. After retirement Mr. Hollowell volunteered for Meals On Wheels, was a member of The United Methodist Men's Club and the Interfaith Hospitality Network. He was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, where he held a number of various offices across the years and the Jane Wells Sunday School Class. Mr. Hollowell enjoyed gardening, the cardio rehab gym and he was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, John Hollowell (Madera) of Augusta, Charles Hollowell (Robin) of Elizabethton, TN, and Susan Gilbreath (Kent) of Evans, GA; grandchildren, Jeremy Hollowell (Autumn) of Elizabethton, TN., Lauren Kirsch (Brendan) of Indianapolis, IN and Lance Gilbreath of Augusta; two great granddaughters, Gracie Kirsch and Aubree Hollowell; four brothers, Nathan Hollowell (Phylis) of Eure, NC, Benjamin Hollowell (Marjorie) of Blounts Creek, NC, Joe Hollowell (Lou) and Charles Hollowell (Margaret) all of Aurora, NC; and two sisters, Virginia Bennett of Greenville, NC and Sally Brantley (Keith) of Aurora, NC. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 21, 2006, 11:00 AM, at St. Mark United Methodist Church with Rev. Gerald Varner officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Hollowell, Lance Gilbreath, Brendan Kirsch, Roy Printup, Steve Lariscy and Bo Slendak. Honorary pallbearers will be the Jane Wells Sunday School Class and members of the University Cardio-Rehab Gym 5:30 AM class. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. If so desired, memorials may be made in memory of Grover C. Hollowell, Jr., to the St. Mark Building Fund, 2367 Washington Rd. Augusta, GA 30904 The family will receive friends this evening ( Friday) from 6 until 8 PM at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd. Augusta, GA 30907 (706)364-8484.
