Coming off a pair of losing seasons, Glenn Hills rebounded strong with star running back Jerry Ellison. Thomson entered this contest with an 8-1 record, while Glenn Hills came in with a 7-2 mark. The Spartans left with the Region 4-AAA title.
RECAP: Ellison rushed for 201 of Glenn Hills' 268 yards, and he scored all three touchdowns. Thomson tallied 285 rushing yards, but didn't help itself with three lost fumbles.
KEY PLAY: In the fourth quarter, Ellison broke off a 73-yard scoring run to give the Spartans a 10-point lead.
ON THE SIDELINES: Gene Crislip in the ninth of his 15 years at Glenn Hills led the Spartans to an 8-3 mark. His team lost the next week to Westside in the region semifinals. Meanwhile, Thomson's Luther Welsh rallied his troops to win the next three games. The Bulldogs finished 11-3, losing in the state semifinals.
