She was active in St. John United Methodist Church as a teacher, youth worker, president of the Woman's Society of Christian Services, president of the Eakes Bible Class, former member of the Administrative Board, Lay Minister, Commission on Outreach, Nominating Committee, Soup Kitchen Co-Captain, and served for thirteen years as the Associate Chaplain at St. John Towers where she taught a weekly bible class. The City of Augusta honored Mrs. Dicks with the Outstanding Citizenship Award for a lifetime of charitable works. SEDONA, AR. - Barbara Maury Bowen Moore entered into rest Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Sedona, Arizona. She is survived by her beloved husband, Henry Clay Moore, Jr., formerly of Atlanta. She was predeceased by her parents Edna and Dudley Hollingsworth Bowen. Mrs. Moore was a native of Augusta, Georgia, born July 8, 1938. She graduated from William Robinson Elementary, Langford Middle School, Academy of Richmond County (Augusta), Sweet Briar College (Virginia) and obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics from Emory University. She taught two years in Cairo Egypt at the American College for girls later named the Ramses College for Girls. While employed by Georgia Educational Television in Atlanta from 1966-1969, she developed the Patterns and Guessing Patterns television series and a related series for teachers of mathematics. Mrs. Moore lived in Atlanta for 30 years, during which time she taught mathematics at the Galloway School. Her lifelong interests included travel, international relations and the collection and creation of art. She studied Art at Georgia State University in Atlanta and loved painting self- portraits. In addition to her husband Clay, Barbara is survived by her brother, Dudley Hollingsworth Bowen, Jr. and his wife Madeline Martin Bowen of Augusta: her nieces, Maury Bowen Rothschild and her children, Eleanor and Graham Rothschild of Savannah, and Laura Madeline Bowen and Laura's husband Kurt Pivko of Kingsport Tennessee; a stepson Steve Moore and his wife Debra of Bellingham, Washington; a nephew Rogers Malone Jr. and his family of Lagrange Illinois, a niece Beth Malone Clark and her Family of Northbrook, Illinois; and, a niece Marjorie Lynn Malone and a brother-in-law Rogers Malone of St. Louis. She is also survived by numerous cousins. The remains will be cremated in Arizona and a memorial service will be scheduled in Augusta at a later time. SUMMERVILLE, S.C. - Harold H. Norvell entered into eternal rest on October 14, 2006 at the Summerville Medical Center Hospital. He was 84 years of age. Graveside Services and interment will be held at Westover Memorial park in Augusta, GA on October 18, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Norvell enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 1940 and was a veteran of World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He flew 52 strikes, observations and photographic missions with the Navy Patrol Squadron 3. Among other decorations, he was awarded the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight missions. He retired after 22 years of combined active and reserve duties as Lieutenant Colonel. He continued to serve as commanding officer with the 53rd Rifle Company at the Charleston Naval Base. He was an outstanding marksman and avid big game hunter. He worked as a contract photographer for Time-Life Books and Entomological Display Photography in the fly fishing industry. Upon retirement from active duty, Mr. Norvell opened a photographic retail business in Charleston, Norvell's Camera Exchange. Mr. Norvell is survived by a brother, J. Fleming Norvell, a son, Harold H. Norvell, two grandsons, Hamilton Harrelson and Huger Harrelson, three nephews, James F. Norvell, Jr., Frank W. SEDONA, AR. - Barbara Maury Bowen Moore entered into rest Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Sedona, Arizona. She is survived by her beloved husband, Henry Clay Moore, Jr., formerly of Atlanta. She was predeceased by her parents Edna and Dudley Hollingsworth Bowen. Mrs. Moore was a native of Augusta, Georgia, born July 8, 1938. She graduated from William Robinson Elementary, Langford Middle School, Academy of Richmond County (Augusta), Sweet Briar College (Virginia) and obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics from Emory University. She taught two years in Cairo Egypt at the American College for girls later named the Ramses College for Girls. While employed by Georgia Educational Television in Atlanta from 1966-1969, she developed the Patterns and Guessing Patterns television series and a related series for teachers of mathematics. Mrs. Moore lived in Atlanta for 30 years, during which time she taught mathematics at the Galloway School. Her lifelong interests included travel, international relations and the collection and creation of art. She studied Art at Georgia State University in Atlanta and loved painting self- portraits. In addition to her husband Clay, Barbara is survived by her brother, Dudley Hollingsworth Bowen, Jr. and his wife Madeline Martin Bowen of Augusta: her nieces, Maury Bowen Rothschild and her children, Eleanor and Graham Rothschild of Savannah, and Laura Madeline Bowen and Laura's husband Kurt Pivko of Kingsport Tennessee; a stepson Steve Moore and his wife Debra of Bellingham, Washington; a nephew Rogers Malone Jr. and his family of Lagrange Illinois, a niece Beth Malone Clark and her Family of Northbrook, Illinois; and, a niece Marjorie Lynn Malone and a brother-in-law Rogers Malone of St. Louis. She is also survived by numerous cousins. The remains will be cremated in Arizona and a memorial service will be scheduled in Augusta at a later time. A World War II veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. Herb was a pleasant, quick whitted gentleman who reached out to others of all ages to encourage them. AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. James Marvin "Bo" Lokey age 77, beloved husband of Mrs. Myrtle Lokey, of Augusta, formerly of Thomson, died Monday October 16, 2006 in The Beverly Manor convalescent center of Augusta. Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday October 19, 2006 in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Rev. Brent Turner officiating. Mr. Lokey was a native of Washington, GA a son of the late James Frederick and Ila Farr Lokey, He was a retired Postmaster with more than 34 years of service with the U.S. Postal service retiring in 1990. Mr. Lokey was a member of Thomson Presbyterian Church for 45 years where he served as a Deacon. He was a former member of the Thomson country club, and the Thomson Jaycees and was a Mason. He loved playing golf and fishing at the farm with his son-in-law Tracy, and grandsons Tray and Zach. Mr. Lokey was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Mary Fannie L. Rautenberg, Blanche L. Young, Florence L. Candler and Christine L. Wall and is survived by wife of 55 years Mrs. Myrtle Dixon Lokey of Augusta; daughter, Susan L Middlebrooks, of Augusta; son-in-law, Tracy W. Middlebrooks, Jr. M.D., of Augusta; two grandsons and wives, Tracy (Tray) W. and Cathy Middlebrooks, III of Alpharetta, GA, James Zachary (Zach) and Melissa Middlebrooks of Alpharetta, GA; granddaughter, Mary Amanda Middlebrooks of Augusta; sister, Louise L. Williams of Washington; one very special niece, Candace L. Williams of Augusta; three nephews, Charlie Candler, of Thomson, Randy Young, of Washington, and Fred Young, of Tennessee; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Paige Middlebrooks, and great-grandson, James Austin Middebrooks both of Alpharetta, GA. M. Night Shyamalan's latest film was a lesson in not judging a book by its cover. Both the movie's previews and characters proved to be much more than they seemed.
