The Spotlight

Ira Stillwell

STATS: 16, a junior at John S. Davidson Fine Arts School

WHAT: Stage technician

HER STORY: Of the many arts from which to choose at Davidson, Ira's is "tech." In short, she is one of the people behind the curtain during stage performances who makes sure the show runs smoothly. Techs are responsible for drafting, which is the creation of props for the scenes of the performances.

Drafting has become Ira's specialty. She is the scenic designer for the set of this year's middle school show, Death by Dessert.

Although she has been in tech for three years, Ira also has a more visual side.

"I like photography," she said.

Ira is quite the musician, too, and writes lyrics and music for the guitar. This past summer, she attended the Governor's Honors Program in Valdosta, Ga., where, as the Davidson Spanish Club president, she majored in Spanish.

Another one of her hobbies is "making people laugh," she said.
