ATHENS, Ga. - Thomas Brown was having one of his best games of the season.

Georgia's tailback rushed for a season-high 75 yards in the first half against Vanderbilt and seemed destined to crack the 100-yard mark for the sixth time in his career.

Now, his season might be over.

Brown suffered what appeared to be a severe knee injury while returning the second-half kickoff during Georgia's 24-22 loss to Vanderbilt on Saturday.

Vanderbilt's Myron Lewis hit Brown low and Chris Johnson hit him high from the opposite side just as he planted his right foot. He sat on the trainer's table for most of the third quarter, a bag of ice resting on his right knee and his leg propped up by his helmet.

Coach Mark Richt didn't know the severity of Brown's injury.

"It doesn't look he'll be playing any time soon," Richt said.

Brown, who also broke a leg during his senior season at Tucker High, wasn't Georgia's only offensive casualty in the defeat. Guard Chester Adams suffered an ankle injury on Georgia's second drive and was replaced by Washington County's Seth Watts. Center Nick Jones injured his knee, but finished the game. Martrez Milner injured his toe.

Though Brown is an offensive weapon, Adams' injury could be more devastating. Their offensive line depth is thin, and Watts is inexperienced.

Georgia still has options at tailback with Kregg Lumpkin and Danny Ware. Richt said freshman Asher Allen will probably take over kick return duties.

"Injuries up front are by far the last place we can afford it," Richt said. "Hopefully, Chester could come back and Nick could come back this next week. But if they can't, we'll be playing some young guys."

The Bulldogs also lost backup fullback Des Williams for the year earlier in the week in practice. Williams, who suffered a right shoulder injury that will probably require surgery, said he expects to miss spring practice. The junior sustained a torn labrum and a bone chip.
