Police look for man in shooting

Police are seeking a Burke County man in connection with a south Augusta shooting that occurred during the weekend.

Michael Young, 32, of Waynesboro, is wanted in Saturday's shooting of Leonard Burch, 30, according to the Richmond County sheriff's Office. The shooting happened in the 2400 block of Rudy Drive near Wells Drive at about 10 p.m., police said.

Mr. Burch, an Augusta resident, told police that he and Mr. Young confronted each other while driving. After an exchange of words, Mr. Burch said, they exited their vehicles and Mr. Young pulled out a small caliber handgun and shot him.

Mr. Burch was injured in the stomach, left buttock and left bicep, said sheriff's Investigator Paul Godden.

Mr. Burch remained in Medical College of Georgia Hospital on Sunday, but the injuries were not life-threatening, Investigator Godden said.

Mr. Young should be considered armed and dangerous, Investigator Godden said.

"He threatened the clerk's life several times," Richmond County sheriff's Investigator Paul Godden said.

The robber forced the clerk to print out several money orders with a maximum value of $500 each, police said. The suspect was described as a black male dressed in a light blue athletic suit and a white baseball cap with a Bridgestone Golf logo.

Two-car wreck sends three to hospital

Three people received medical treatment after a two-car collision Sunday in Hephzibah.

At about 12:30 p.m., police were called to Bath-Edie Road at Georgia Highway 88 after a 1998 Lexus collided with a 1992 Jeep Cherokee.

Steven Roberts, 42, of Hephzibah, was charged with failure to yield from a stop sign, according to Richmond County sheriff's Deputy Byrnie Hardin.

Mr. Roberts' Lexus was traveling south on Bath-Edie Road before striking the Cherokee which was traveling eastbound on Highway 88. The impact caused the Cherokee to overturn into a ditch, police said.

The Cherokee was driven by Sherelle Hill, 20, police said.

Mr. Roberts and his passenger, wife Vicki Roberts, along with Ms. Hill, were treated at Medical College of Georgia Hospital for minor injuries, Deputy Hardin said.
