AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at University Hospital, MSGT (Ret.) Adna L. Stein, 78, of Park Place Court. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 7, 2006 at 12:00 noon from Williams Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal Church with Reverend Dr. Paul W. Gardner, Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olive Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Honorary pallbearers are the Richmond County Board of Education Board Members, Williams Memorial CME Church Trustees, Juneteenth Society of Augusta and the Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. Please assemble at the church by 11:15 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Stein was a native of Mount Enterprise, Texas. He attended the Texas Public Schools and upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and graduated from the Army Engineering School, Fort Velvoir, Virginia in 1951 and the NCO Academy, Fort Carson, Colorado in 1956. On September 1, 1966, he retired from the United States Army after twenty-one years of service. After his military career Mr. Stein attended the University of Georgia and South Carolina State University where he received a degree in Trade and Industrial Education. He began his career of eighteen years as a educator with the Richmond County Board of Education retiring in 1986. In 1992, he was elected to the Richmond County Board of Education, where he served in the capacities of President and Chairman of the Building Committee. Mr. Stein was active in several community organizations: the Evening Optimist Club, Richmond County Board of Elections, Richmond County Board of Health, CSRA Classic, Richmond County Board of Retired Teachers Association and the Juneteenth Society of Augusta. He was a member of Williams Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where he was a loyal member and served diligently as a Trustee and Sunday School Teacher. Survivors are a devoted and loving wife, Julia Stein; step son, Eric Porter, Gaithersburg, MD; three sisters, Marie Hill, Praire View, TX; Thelma Comier, Palestine, TX, Martha (Shelly) Ross, Beaumont, TX; four brothers, Seth (Nancy) Stein, Mt. Enterprise, TX, Isaac Stein, Sugarland, TX, Philip (Arkalio) Stein, Mt. Enterprise, TX and Paul (Sharon) Stein, Clinton, MS; mother-in-law, Rosa L. Stokes, Augusta, GA; two brothers-in-law, Moses (Thelma) Stokes, North Augusta, SC and Walter (Lucille) Stokes, Augusta, GA; one sister-in-law, Judith (John) Bradberry, Jonesboro, GA; one god daughter, Artencia Taylor, Augusta, GA; one god son, Gerald Elam, Grovetown, GA; two loyal nephews, Winston Stein and Dimitri Stein, both of Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
