MOX mission approaches for SRS
Making the world a safer place is a concern to us all. To reduce the threat of rogue nations and terrorists from obtaining nuclear weapon materials, the United States and Russia signed the Plutonium Management and Disposition Agreement in 2000. The agreement requires each country to dispose of 34 metric tons of surplus, weapons-grade plutonium by turning it into mixed oxide (MOX) fuel for use in existing commercial nuclear reactors. After the fuel is used in the reactor, it can no longer be used in a nuclear weapon.
