Kristin Brown is the executive director of the Aiken Center for the Arts.
1. What is new at the Aiken Center for the Arts this year?
"In August, we had a wonderful free event to the public. That was called Aiken Arts Alive. We were very pleased. We had a turnout of about 500. The place was hopping. Our film series will commence on Thursday, with four films Thursday evenings at 7. (The first film) is Reel Art."
2. How many galleries do you have at the center?
"We now total five after our new addition last year. We have a second-floor gallery that is somewhat devoted to youth and education. We have a new gallery that used to be our classroom and that is dedicated to the Aiken Artists Guild."
3. What are your most popular classes?
"We offer a huge variety, from home-schoolers to children to adults to seniors. I would say that our painting classes are very popular, and we're just getting started on our clay classes."
4. What is the best-selling item in the gallery store?
"I think our jewelry is popular. The Horseplay poster is always popular. Cookies in a Jar has become a popular item in the store, and it benefits the children's orchestra."
5. What is something that people might be surprised to know about the art center?
"I think how large it is and how many things that we offer and do. The second floor is still a phenomenal surprise to people."
