'Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby'

NOW IN THEATERS

RELEASED: Aug. 4

MPAA RATING: PG-13

MY THOUGHTS: Funny guy Will Ferrell stars as Ricky Bobby, who becomes a NASCAR star and gets all the speed bumps that come with it. Though the jokes can get a little corny, it's great to see for some laughs.

'Snakes on a Plane'

NOW IN THEATERS

RELEASED: Aug. 18

MPAA RATING: PG-13

MY THOUGHTS: This movie is great. With all genres from horror to adventure wrapped into one film, the plot makes you want to see it repeatedly.

An FBI agent has to transport a witness from Hawaii to Los Angeles to testify against a nasty mob boss, and this mob boss sets up an ingeniously serpentine plan to get rid of the witness.

This cast, which includes Samuel L. Jackson and one of my favorite television stars, Kenan Thompson from Nickelodeon's All That, was hilarious and made the film work.

'Pulse'

NOW IN THEATERS

RELEASED: Aug. 12

MPAA RATING: PG-13

MY THOUGHTS: Another plotless waste of time masquerading as a horror film, Pulse fails from the opening light flicker. Worse, there is no sense of closure. As a reviewer, I'm not to give away the ending, but don't worry, I couldn't if I tried.

With its fair share of screams and creepy beings that are never actually identified, Pulse might get your heart pumping once or twice; but all in all, it's just a below-average horror film.
