L. Gordon Kennerly (AIKEN, S.C.)



AIKEN, S.C. - Mr. L. Gordon Kennerly, 79, of Aiken, died Sunday, September 17, 2006 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday at St. Johns United Methodist Church. Reverend Dr. George K. Howle will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following in the fellowship hall. Graveside services will be held at 3 PM in the Wesley Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Cordova, SC. Mr. Kennerly was born in Orangeburg, SC to the late Denzil F. and Connie Hughes Kennerly. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina, and served with the US Navy during WWII. He moved to Aiken in 1953 and began working as a cost accountant with E.I. DuPont and subsequently Westinghouse. He was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, where he was in the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was also an avid gardener. Survivors include his beloved wife, Sylvia Ward Kennerly; his son, Lewis Gordon (Christy) Kennerly, Jr., Cordova, SC; two grandchildren, Hannah Elise Kennerly and Lewis Gordon Kennerly, III; and a step granddaughter, Kaitlyn Abigail Hay. Pallbearers will be Bruce Hughes, Scott Anthony, Dan Keaton, Edwin Speed and Thomas Murden. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
