Car shot while owner sleeps
An Augusta woman's car was shot multiple times Saturday while she was asleep in the passenger seat, according to a Richmond County sheriff's report.
Ebony Latrice Scott, 23, of the 700 block of East Chapman Street, told police her Kia Spectra was parked in the 1800 block of Fayetteville Drive at about noon when the other three people in the car began yelling. She awoke to a woman firing a black handgun at her car, the report said.
Teen is arrested after gunshots reported
An Augusta teenager was arrested in the 3500 block of Old Louisville Road on Sunday after deputies received reports of gunshots in the area, according to a Richmond County sheriff's report.
Darryl Jonah McKinney Jr., 17, was charged with possession of a firearm by a person under the age of 18 and carrying a concealed weapon. A deputy said he saw Mr. McKinney emerge from the woods and begin walking south on Old Louisville Road. When the deputy approached, the teen threw the handgun into the grass.
About 30 minutes later, deputies found 22 .40-caliber shell casings and five .32-caliber shell casings in the intersection of Elegans Drive and Empress Avenue, the report said.
Gunman robs three outside grocery store
Three people were robbed at gunpoint Saturday night outside the IGA Plus grocery store at 3355 Deans Bridge Road, a Richmond County sheriff's report said.
Charles Robert Fennell, 43, of Blythe, said he and two women were approached from behind at about 9 p.m. by a man carrying a black handgun and forced to hand over money. The suspect took $308 in cash and other items.
Thief takes $850 in tobacco products
Someone stole $865 in tobacco products from C&J Market at 1565 15th St. early Sunday, a Richmond County sheriff's report states.
The thief got in the store by throwing a rock through the glass on the front door between 2:40 and 3:50 a.m.
Fifty packs of Black & Mild cigars, 15 cartons of Newport cigarettes, one case of White Owl cigars, five packs of Phillies Blunts and two boxes of Backwood cigars were stolen, the report said.
Three sent to hospital after Buick hits pickup
Three people were injured in an accident at Milledgeville and Wheeless roads Sunday.
Sgt. Paul Johnson of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office said a woman in a green Buick traveling north on Wheeless Road ran a red light and collided with a black Ford pickup truck. The truck flipped and came to rest on its roof.
The two male passengers in the truck were taken by ambulance to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, and the woman in the Buick was taken to University Hospital. All three had "visible injuries," Sgt. Johnson said.
He did not have the victims' names Sunday evening.
