CARRYING A FIREARM
According to Georgia law, if someone does not have a concealed firearm permit on them, he or she cannot openly carry a handgun - on their body or inside their vehicle.
The law does allow handguns to be carried by people outside of a person's home, vehicle or place of business if they have a valid pistol license.
The firearm must be in a holster, hip grip or a similar device in which it can be concealed by a person's clothing, handbag, briefcase or other closed container.
In Richmond County, those interested in purchasing a gun permit should call the Probate Court office inside the Richmond County Municipal Building, 530 Greene St., Room 401.
Probate Court officials can be reached at (706) 821-2434 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A $24 money order is required, and applicants must be fingerprinted at the Richmond County Law Enforcement Center, 401 Walton Way. Its hours are 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
