Money for turkeys

The National Wild Turkey Federation provided nearly $17,000 to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources' annual wild turkey production (brood) and hunting population (harvest) surveys.

Barkley scholarship

Calvin Roland, an alumnus of Aiken Technical College, has been awarded the inaugural Charles Barkley Scholarship at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond.

Farm helps animals

Paradise Farm in Aiken recently held a clinic that raised almost $3,000 for The Aiken Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Grant for school

Fox Creek High School has been awarded $4,480 by Monsanto Corp. to allow students to learn basic genetic principles through the study of Aspergillus nidulans, a common nonpathenogenic fungus.

Earns designation

Don Turno, the chief of the Aiken County Emergency Service Hazardous Material Team, has completed the process that awards him the designation of Chief Fire Officer. The Commission on Chief Fire Officer Designation met Aug. 9 to confer the designation upon Chief Turno.
