DUTCH FORK 24, NORTH AUGUSTA 0
PLAY OF THE GAME: Dutch Fork running back Rashad Counts dashed 71 yards past a drawn-in North Augusta defense for a touchdown on the second play of the game.
WHY DUTCH FORK WON: Counts blended speed and elusiveness to gain 211 yards on 17 carries. His running set up quarterback Zach Cornett, who completed 10 of 16 for 104 yards and a scoring pass. Kicker Joey Scribner booted a 49-yard field goal.
WHY NORTH AUGUSTA LOST: The Yellow Jackets (1-2) were thrown out of their game plan early by Counts' running. Forced to pass, Will Churm and Qwame Cunningham combined to complete only 11 of 33 with two interceptions. Manny Reidel and Darrell Curry carried the ball 11 times for a combined 65 yards.
STAR OF THE GAME: Undoubtedly Counts, a three-year starter. North Augusta (1-2) had their hands on the 5-foot-6, 155-pound scatback a number of times, but he managed to elude tackles time after time.
QUOTABLE: "That was a big play," North Augusta coach Dan Pippin said about Counts' long touchdown run. "But we were only down 14-0 at the half. We have a chance to be a good team, but we're not playing the weak sisters."
WHAT'S NEXT: North Augusta visits Northwestern.
