COLUMBIA - Gov. Mark Sanford on Wednesday agreed to three debates in his bid for re-election, drawing criticism from challenger Tommy Moore's campaign for not discussing the debates with them.
Still, "Our intention is to go to every debate that (Sanford) goes to," said Mr. Moore's campaign spokeswoman Karen Gutmann. "We're accepting all debates and forums."
The Sanford campaign announced Wednesday morning that he accepted three invitations to debate Mr. Moore, the Democratic candidate for governor:
- Oct. 25, sponsored by Greenville-based WYFF-TV and the League of Women Voters.
- Oct. 30, sponsored by ETV and The State newspaper.
- Nov. 1, sponsored by Columbia's WIS-TV.
Mr. Moore's campaign managers e-mailed a response, saying that no one from the Sanford campaign had contacted them about scheduling any debates.
