AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Armistead "Army" Cole Sandlin, beloved wife of David Sandlin, entered into rest on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at her residence. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 25, 2006 at 6:30 PM at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Augusta, Georgia, with the Rev. Robert Fain officiating. Mrs. Sandlin was a teacher in Richmond County for 23 years at Windsor Spring Elementary and C.T. Walker Magnet School. She was a teacher and a friend to everyone she met. Her steadfast commitment to education and the community was recognized in many awards, including "Who's Who Among America's Teachers", the "Time to Care" award, and "Teacher of the Year". She considered her greatest reward the accolades paid to her by previous students, parents, teachers, and friends. Army was an active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. She was a member of the Vestry and a Sunday school teacher. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three sons, Jeff Sandlin and wife, Lori, Stuart Sandlin and wife, Katharine, and Brian Sandlin and wife, Julianne; her grandchildren, Caleb Tokarska, Katie Sandlin, Elizabeth Sandlin, and Caroline Sandlin; her three brothers, Norborne Page Cole, Jr., David deSales Cole, and Richard Cutler Cole, and a sister, Katherine Cole Ingram. The family will receive friends in the Church of the Good Shepherd Parish Hall immediately following the service.
