PLUM BRANCH, S.C. - Ralph Lee Walling, Sr., 86, of Split Oak Drive, Plum Branch, died Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at the VA Hospital in Augusta. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2006 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg with Dr. Robert Craven officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Southern Methodist Church Cemetery in Jamison, S.C. Active pallbearers are Paul Atkinson, Michael McCray, Danny Smoak, Hubert Walton, Sr., Billy Walling and Mark Walling. Mr. Walling was born August 21, 1920 in Calhoun County, S.C., the son of the late George W. Walling and the late Betty Warren Walling. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was retired from Home Motors. He was a widower of the late Caroline Smoak Walling. Survivors include three sons, Ralph L. (Mary Ann) Walling, Jr. of Sumter, S.C., Dewey M. (Elaine) Walling of Aiken, Gene F. (Joan) Walling of Orangeburg; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
