Season Preview: Allendale-Fairfax

Head coach: Wayne Farmer (Second year at Allendale-Fairfax; 12th overall)

Classification: SCHSL Region 5-A

2005 record: 2-8

Four-year record (since 2002): 33-21

Last playoff appearance: 2005

Returning starters: 6 offense, 9 defense

Key Tigers: Junior ATH Lennell Elmore (6-0, 170); Junior DL Michael Kirkland (6-3, 220); Junior OL/DL Akiem Smart (6-3, 260); Junior QB Antonio Frederick (6-0, 180); Junior OL/DL Mario Smith (6-0, 250); Senior S Robert Glenn (6-1, 185)

Offensive attack: Elmore is a newcomer but is considered a key part of the Wing-T. He'll play some at quarterback, receiver and running back. Senior Ross Graham (5-10, 200) is a returning starter at guard. Junior running back Jeff Washington (6-0, 185) also returns. Senior newcomer Edward Doe (6-0, 210) has impressed at receiver.

Defensive keys: The 4-3 seems solid, as junior Stedman Serivens (6-3, 265) adds size and game experience to a deep defensive line. Seniors Dawan Deloach (6-0, 190) and Maurice Johnson (5-9, 185) return to a linebacker corps that will be a strength. Graham and junior Derick Youmans (5-10, 180) are also back at LB.

Big game: at Barnwell, Sept. 22

Different this year: Tougher schedule

Could go bad if: The offensive line falters. It's a group that lacks maturity and depth.

Great year if: The Tigers develop an all-region caliber player at quarterback and the team's exciting junior class can scratch their significant potential.
