Season Preview: Richmond Academy

Head coach: Chris Lamb (First year)

Classification: GHSA Region 3B-AAAA

2005 record: 3-7

Four-year record (since 2002): 6-34

Last playoff appearance: 1997

Returning starters: 5 offense, 4 defense

Key Musketeers: Senior QB Jacob Sullivan (6-4, 200); Senior OLB Qunta Brown (6-0, 190); Senior RB Marquel Jordan (5-8, 170); Senior DL Cameron Hooks (5-11, 285); Sophomore PK Eric O'Steen (6-0, 140)

Offensive attack: Lamb's style is to pound the ball out of the Wing-T. Sullivan is a fine leader and a three-year starter. Jordan led the ground attack with 622 yards rushing last year and senior FB Mike Lowery (5-6,175) ran for 445 yards and four scores. The Musketeers will throw the ball a lot less this year.

Defensive keys: Defensive line joins running back as the two stacked positions on the team. That will help the 4-4 front the team plans to use. Defensive end Nick Peterson (6-4, 240) can run a 4.6 40-yard dash and had 62 tackles last year. Brown is a strong leader and carries a 3.8 grade point mark.

Thin at: Receiver looks like an area without much experience. The defensive secondary also appears a bit green.

Big game: At Westside, Sept. 8.

Different this year: A greater emphasis on a ball-control offense with a deep corps of running backs.

Could go bad if: The team's offensive line is not tough enough to play in a physical region.

Great year if: Richmond Academy can sweep the Columbia County schools in its region and post a winning record. Six wins would equal the program's win total since 2002.
