Season Preview: Josey

Head coach: Barney Chavous (Fifth year)

Classification: GHSA Region 3-AA

2005 record: 0-10

Four-year record (since 2002): 6-34

Last playoff appearance: 1999

Returning starters: 5 offense, 5 defense

Key Eagles: Senior CB/RB/QB Danny Daggett (5-9, 170); Senior DE Cordero Campbell (6-2, 205); Senior OT/DE Raphael Brown (6-2, 255); P/DE/FB Senior Daniel Herman (6-2, 245)

Offensive attack: Chavous always runs his offense out of a Pro Set. Daggett will shift all over the place to take advantage of his speed. He'll start at quarterback but will juggle positions. Freshman Robert Seymour (6-1, 220) will get reps at running back and quarterback. Versatile junior Robert Johnson (5-10, 170) will also work under center. Chavous said this is the best offense he's had at Josey.

Defensive keys: The Eagles will run a 3-4. Former Jefferson County and Warren County head coach Charles Rutland is the new linebackers coach. Chavous said the team was too vanilla last year and the Eagles will show more defensive looks this fall.

Thin at: Secondary

Different this year: The Eagles are more experienced, and their new schemes will make them tougher to figure out.

Could go bad if: Team chemistry plummets after a few losses. The attitude is great now. What will it be like if the team is 0-3 and heading into region play? Daggett must stay healthy.

Great year if: Chavous is looking for a great start just by winning the first game and continuing from there. He did say making the playoffs would be better than great. He said it would be a "super" year.
