Season Preview: Wardlaw Academy

Head coach: Hubert Morris (10th year)

Classification: SCISA Eight Man Region I

2005 record: 2-9

Four-year record (since 2002): 37-15

Last playoff appearance: 2004

Returning starters: 4 offense, 4 defense

Key Patriots: Senior RB/LB Troy Thomas; Sophomore RB/WR Kevin Ginn; Senior DL Glen Brockington; Junior QB Justin Ouzts; Junior WR Ross Williams

Offensive attack: Thomas will be the premier player in the backfield. Last season he rushed for almost 800 yards and five TDs. Ouzts will be the starting quarterback in his first year of varsity football. The move will free up Ginn to play RB and WR.

Defensive keys: Thomas is the team's leading returning tackler (121 last season). He will be aided by experienced players Ginn, Brockington and Benji Brown.

Thin at: Quarterback

Big game: Vs. Jefferson Davis, Oct. 13

Different this year: Six freshmen join the team to add depth to the 17-man roster.

Could go bad if: Wardlaw suffers any major injuries. In eight-man football, all it takes is one injury to sink the ship. The Patriots especially need Thomas to stay healthy.

Great year if: The 11 underclassmen grow up quick and help the Patriots to a .500 record.
