Head coach: Mark Rodgers (Fifth year)
Classification: SCHSL Region 4-A
2005 record: 9-3
Four-year record (since 2002): 18-25
Last playoff appearance: 2005
Returning starters: 7 offense, 6 defense
Key Trojans: Senior QB/FS Devonne Quattlebaum (6-0, 185); Senior CB/TE Quentin Evans (6-0, 180); Senior FB/LB Richard Maddox (5-11, 190); Junior OT/OLB Justin Conaway (6-5, 240); Junior OG/LB Jason Conaway (6-0, 165)
Offensive attack: The Power-I revolves around Quattlebaum. He was probably the best player in the area last year behind Coco Hillary. He ran for 12 touchdowns, threw for 12 and amassed 2,471 all-purpose yards. Junior TE Willie Bettis (6-4, 200) will be a big target over the middle of the field. Both Conaways are line anchors and gritty players.
Defensive keys: Senior DL Josh Boatright (6-2, 240) holds down the middle of the 5-2 front. Junior DL Earl Green (6-4, 330) is as big as they come. Quattlebaum was brilliant in coverage last year, snatching seven interceptions and returning six of them for scores. The team has a plethora of defensive linemen in the mix.
Thin at: Tailback
Big game: Vs. Calhoun County, Oct. 28
Different this year: Expectations. The Trojans won nine games last year for the first time in 15 years. More will be expected out of this team this time around.
Could go bad if: Anything happens to Quattlebaum. The Trojans are in every game they play with him at the helm.
Great year if: That unique mixture of depth, hustle and leadership all comes together. Quattlebaum is talented enough to take a Class A football team a long way. A 10-win season is possible if all that happens and a quality tailback is found.
