Season Preview: Warren County

Head coach: Lee Hutto (First year)

Classification: GHSA Region 7-A

2005 record: 8-4

Four-year record (since 2002): 18-23-2

Last playoff appearance: 2005

Returning starters: 5 offense, 4 defense

Key Screaming Devils: Junior QB Tommy Seals (5-10, 185); Senior WR/LB Quamaine Walker (5-10, 175); Senior TE/DE Jacobian Blount (6-3, 220); Senior FB/NG Ivory Story (5-10, 250); Sophomore DB Kentrell Latimore (5-9, 185)

Offensive attack: The question is whether the switch to the Wing-T will require Seals to do more with his legs than with his proven arm. He's run for 1,345 yards in his two-year career and thrown for 2,057 yards and 20 touchdowns. Blount is the most experienced lineman, and Story is a load at fullback. There are some quality linemen but not much depth.

Defensive keys: Warren's use of a 3-5-3 scheme will be interesting. Not many area teams have used it as a primary defense, but it fits the personnel. Latimore is already a great cover corner with a bright future. Junior RB/DB Devarrus Reynolds (5-9, 165) will be a factor on both offense and defense.

Thin at: Offensive line

Big game: Vs. Lincoln County, Oct. 27

Different this year: New coaching staff and new region format.

Could go bad if: Anything happens to Seals. He means a difference of 5-6 wins to this team. The team has also just begun to embrace strength training. Warren has the quicks, but it is playing catch-up in the muscle race.

Great year if: Seals becomes one of the top Class A players in the state behind an offensive line that turns out to be a tough group. The Devils could win 10 games this year and set themselves up as championship contenders in 2007.
