REINAMARIE LUKAS-GARCIA

STATS: Eighth-grader at Riverside Middle School

WHAT: One of the area's top archers

HER STORY: After getting exposed to the sport of archery by her brother, Reinamarie has spent the past three years becoming one of the best archers in her age group.

She's won more than 34 medals and trophies, and placed 11th nationally in a recent competition, first in the Southeast Festival for archery and is a state champion.

"I don't think the best part is the winning," Reinamarie said. "I do it for traveling. Every time I go to competition or go to a new state, I meet new people and we keep in touch by e-mail and by phone."

Coached by her father, Robert Lukas, and her mom, Reina, Reinamarie is part of her family's Elite of Georgia Archery Club, which is open to those age 7 and up and competes with the local 4-H Club.

As for what it takes to use a bow and arrow, Reinmarie said it's basically a lot of concentration.
