SMYRNA, Ga. - Officials in Paulding County found a woman's body Wednesday along the Silver Comet Trail, and a Smyrna Police Department spokesman said it was believed to be that of a missing 54-year-old woman.
Jennifer Ewing of Sandy Springs had gone riding on the trail Tuesday but failed to return home.
Col. Jim Walker of the Paulding County Sheriff's Department said the body was partially clothed and there were signs of a struggle.
Earlier, Smyrna spokesman Sgt. Robert Harvey said the body found in Paulding County was "what we believe to be the body of Jennifer Ewing. The body has not been positively identified by the GBI."
Sgt. Harvey said he believed Ms. Ewing's bicycle was also found but said he had few details of the discovery.
"Paulding County is working on it," he said. "Her family has been notified."
Ms. Ewing's husband, Jim Ewing, said her silver Honda minivan was found by family members after 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Ms. Ewing made a 50-mile round trip on the trail three to four times a week, family members said. The Silver Comet Trail runs 57 miles from Smyrna to the state line along an abandoned freight rail corridor, winding through Cobb, Paulding and Polk counties.
