Man is indicted in boating hit-and-run
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - A man has been indicted in a boating hit-and-run incident on Lake Sinclair that killed a man.
Mark Entrekin, 49, who authorities say was driving the boat, was indicted by a Baldwin County grand jury Tuesday on charges of homicide by vessel, reckless operation of a vessel and failure to render aid, Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Fred Bright said.
Mr. Entrekin was the operator of the deck boat that hit Mark Baxter and his family July 1 as they returned to shore from their pontoon boat, authorities said. Mr. Baxter and his wife were thrown into the water.
Mr. Baxter's wife and her daughter sustained only minor injuries.
Mr. Baxter likely was killed by blunt force trauma in the impact with the boat.
Pizza oven falls off truck, killing man
WOODSTOCK, GA. - A man was crushed to death Thursday morning when the pizza oven he was delivering fell on him.
Richard Hall, 30, was one of three workers unloading a 1,400-pound oven at a pizza restaurant when it fell off the truck, authorities said.
Judge is indicted on sex crime charges
MILLEDGEVILLE, GA. - A Baldwin County grand jury has indicted a former Municipal Court judge and prosecutor on charges of child molestation and statutory rape.
Jon Philip Carr, 53, is accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl in his law office in Milledgeville.
The grand jury indicted Mr. Carr on six counts of child molestation and four counts of statutory rape, Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Fred Bright said.
Mr. Carr resigned from his positions June 25.
Father is arrested over unpaid child support
LEXINGTON, S.C. - A man accused of failure to pay more than $224,000 in child support in South Carolina has been arrested in Alabama, Sheriff James Metts said Thursday.
Waymon Earl Wilson, 60, was arrested at his job in Fayette, Ala., and has agreed to return to face the charge, Sheriff Metts said.
Mr. Wilson made only two payments, both in 1995 totaling $1,600, after a divorce in 1994, said Beth Carrigg, Lexington County clerk of court.
Deputy was justified in shooting death
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. - A Berkeley County sheriff's deputy was justified in shooting and killing a domestic violence suspect who stabbed another deputy last month, state investigators say.
Joel Terron Rueda, 45, was killed June 11 after he stabbed Deputy Danny Jones in the left armpit during a domestic dispute call.
Deputy Jones and Cpl. Brian O'Rourke fired at Mr. Rueda. The shots fired by Cpl. O'Rourke hit Mr. Rueda in the lower back and chest, an incident report states.
Deputy Jones was hospitalized two days.
Ex-inmate sentenced to life in man's death
CHARLESTON, S.C. - A former inmate at the Charleston County jail has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the beating death of a cell mate in 2004.
Raymond Donald Stegall, 28, was found guilty and sentenced Wednesday of killing 29-year-old Robert Lee Hall.
Mr. Stegall beat and stomped on the much smaller Mr. Hall when the two were confined in a disciplinary cell designed to hold one man, prosecutors said.
