Shooting charge tied to former relationship
An Augusta man is being sought amid allegations that he shot at his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend last month.
Danuel Osborne, of the 2100 block of Hillsinger Road, is accused of breaking into his former girlfriend's residence and shooting at the woman's boyfriend, said Richmond County sheriff's Investigator James Kelly.
The incident occurred June 1 in the 200 block of Brandywine Place, police said.
Mayor will sign bond-swap deal
Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver said Monday that, after talking with an outside attorney, he'll likely have to sign documents authorizing a controversial interest rate swap on the city's $160 million utility bond issue.
The mayor said during a Finance Committee meeting that if he's legally required to sign, he's not going to do anything to prompt another lawsuit against the city. The Augusta Commission already voted to approve the deal, but Mr. Copenhaver held off on signing.
Man dies after being thrown from vehicle
A Hephzibah man died Monday after a single-vehicle wreck on Deans Bridge Road in Blythe.
Bradley Lott, 23, lost control of a Chevrolet Blazer sport utility vehicle on a curve in the 5000 block, said Richmond County Deputy Coroner Charlena Graham.
An unidentified male passenger was injured and taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, she said.
Mr. Lott was ejected. He was pronounced dead at 4:05 p.m. after suffering massive head trauma, Ms. Graham said.
Neither man wore seat belts, she said.
Man goes to hospital after fight, stabbing
An Augusta man was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital after being stabbed with a kitchen knife Monday afternoon.
Larry Burkes, 45, sustained what appeared to be serious injuries to his stomach after being involved in an argument at the corner of 12th and Ellis streets, according to Richmond County sheriff's Investigator Earnest Furgeison.
Aiken man is charged in beating with bat
A 20-year-old Aiken man has been arrested and charged with assaulting a man with a baseball bat last month.
Robbie Lloyd Booth, of the 200 block of Good Springs Road, was charged Friday with lynching in the second degree and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
Teen held in attack on woman, infant
A 17-year-old Wagener girl was arrested Sunday and charged with attacking a man and another woman who was holding an infant.
Ashia Laquinta Abney, of the 300 block of Railroad Avenue, was charged with two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.
According to arrest warrants from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, Ms. Abney attacked Brittany Epps, who was holding her 4-month-old infant, and Brandon Jackson, who has a child with Ms. Abney, on July 4 at a home on Bubba Gunter Road in Wagener.
Man, 59, charged with molesting girl in 1989
A 59-year-old Trenton, S.C., man has been released from jail on $60,000 bond after being charged with molesting a girl over a period of four years, beginning in 1989.
Kenneth Randall, of Academy Street, was arrested Friday and charged with four counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree and five counts of lewd act on a minor. He was released Saturday.
According to a report from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, the girl told investigators on May 5 that Mr. Randall began sexually assaulting her when she was 6. She said she was in his care while her father worked at night.
48-year-old man is charged in molesting
A 48-year-old Aiken man was released from jail on $50,000 bond late last week after being charged with molesting a teen.
Michael Sutton Sr., of the 1200 block of Bacon Road, was charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the second degree and lewd act on a minor.
According to arrest warrants from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, the incidents involved a 14-year-old girl and occurred between May 2003 and October 2004.
Woman airlifted to hospital after wreck
An Aiken County employee was airlifted to Medical College of Georgia Hospital after sustaining injuries in an automobile accident Monday.
Lynn Adams, 49, was traveling south on U.S. Highway 1 at about 4:35 p.m. when her 2002 Ford Taurus was struck from behind by a Chevrolet utility van driven by Brandon Lane, 28, of Pelion, S.C., according to a report from the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Cpl. Josef Robinson said Ms. Adams had slowed to turn left onto Old Camp Long Road when her vehicle was struck in the center rear.
She was listed in fair condition, an MCG spokeswoman said.
Police charge man in gang-related shooting
On Monday, police arrested an Augusta man who was wanted in connection with a gang-related shooting incident last week.
Dennis Marcel Mingeldoph, 25, of the 1300 block of Dewitt Street, was charged with six felony counts of aggravated assault, among other charges, according to Richmond County jail reports.
Also, Tyrone Dion Lyons, 21, of the 1100 block of Weston Street, was arrested July 5 but received additional charges Monday, including aggravated assault. Monday's arrests were in connection with a July 3 shooting at a Circle K gas station on Tobacco Road in which an 18-year-old woman was injured by gunfire.
