ATLANTA - The Gwinnett Center in Duluth near Atlanta will be the site of first- and second-round games in the 2009 NCAA women's basketball tournament, with the University of Georgia serving as the host school.
"This is very exciting for Georgia basketball," said Georgia coach Andy Landers. "Traditionally, when I say Georgia basketball I mean the university. However, in this instance I think it's extremely exciting for the entire state of Georgia. It's a tremendous opportunity for us to help bring part of the NCAA tournament to an area that embraces women's basketball."
Georgia has played regular-season games at the Gwinnett Center the last two years as part of the Russell Athletic Shootout, a Chick-Fil-A Bowl event.
The venue will host the 2007 SEC women's tournament, March 1-4.
