Charles W. Gooch (SFC AUGUSTA, Ga.)



SFC AUGUSTA, Ga. - Ret. SFC Charles "Chuck" Gooch, Jr. age 75, entered into rest Thursday, July 6, 2006. Chuck was survived by his long time companion and love of his life, Estelle Polson. He was born in Florence, AL and had lived in the Augusta area for the last 35 years. Chuck retired from the US Army after serving for 20 years. During his time in the military he served in the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam Conflict and was awarded the Infantry Badge. After his retirement from the military, Ret. SFC Gooch was employed for the Clark Hills Ft. Gordon Recreation Park and also was the manager of the Georgia Railroad Bank Recreation Area. He was a member of the American Legion, Post # 192 and was a life member of the VFW Post # 3200. Chuck enjoyed his boats and all the gatherings with his friends at the lake house. His favorite had to be enjoying the company of his best buddies for an afternoon at the Legion. He's awful proud of all the awards the Legion has presented him. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2006 from the Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez. Interment services will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Survivors are Ms. Estelle Polson; two daughters, Sheila Jewett of Shelton, WA, and Vicky Leetch of Corona SD, and many close friends, relatives and grandchildren.
