Charles Peters (AIKEN, S.C.)



AIKEN, S.C. - Entered into rest July 4, 2006, Mr. Charles "Woody" Peters, Sr., of Aiken, S.C., husband of the late Evie Lou Thrower Peters and son of the late Thomas Reuben Peters and the late Lillian Cornelia McCormick Peters. He is survived by two daughters, Beverly Peters Gregg and Barbara Peters Bowers, both of Aiken; two sons, Charles W. Peters, Jr. of Conyers, Ga. and James R. "Jim" Peters, Sr., of Graniteville, S.C.; six grandchildren, William B. Gregg, James R. Peters, Jr., William C. Peters, Andrew C. Peters, Evie T. Peters and Charles W. Peters, III and three great-grandchildren, Cody R. Royals, William G. Gregg and Alexandria C. Gregg. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Rutland and two brothers, J.D. Peters and Thomas Wilburn Peters. He was born in Lanett, Alabama but has been a resident of Aiken County for the past 56 years. He was a retired Superintendent with the Hickman Division of Graniteville Company. He was a graduate ofAuburn University in Alabama majoring in Textile Engineering. He was a member of the American Legion Samuel H. Swint Post #77 in Warrenville and the Graniteville Exchange Club. He served his country in the US Marines during World War II. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Graniteville, S.C.; there he was a member of the United Methodist Men, the Paul Burnette Sunday School Class and sang in the Choir. He was also very active in the Church Missions Program. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in St. John United Methodist Church with Rev. Lawrence Watson, Rev. Douglas Gilliland and Rev. Gene Wilson officiating. The interment will be private. The family will receive friends Friday night, July 7th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the residence at 821 Rutledge Rd. in Aiken, S.C., and also immediately following the memorial service at the Bessie Pearl Williams Building, which is adjacent to the church.
