Eugenia R. Dinkins (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Doctors Hospital, Mrs. Eugenia Rodgers Dinkins, 86, wife of 49 years to the late Ernest Dinkins. Mrs. Dinkins was a native and life long resident of Augusta and North Augusta. She retired in 1983 as a Veteran Benefits Counselor after 23 years for the Georgia Department of Veterans Services. She was an active member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Mrs. Dinkins worked with the Council of Catholic Women on the parish, deanery and diocesan levels. She also worked with parochial school activities at Sacred Heart and Aquinas. Mrs. Dinkins was Editor of the Women's Page of the Southern Cross newspaper for the Dioceses of Savannah and served several years on C.Y.O. Advisory Committee. She was the first Catholic woman to be a member of the Executive Board of the Augusta Council of Church Women United. She served as tour guide for 10 years at Sacred Heart Cultural Center. For the past 10 years, Mrs. Dinkins was a member of St. Joseph Hospital Lady's Auxiliary. Family members include her sons and daughter-in-law, Ernest R. and Ann Dinkins of Augusta, Joseph W. Dinkins of Hurst, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen D. and Paul Ianuario, Sr. of Duncan, SC; grandchildren, Janet Vaughan, Donna Zapata, Rod Dinkins, Rev. David Dinkins, Maj. Joseph Dinkins, Lori Dinkins, Paul Ianuario, Jr., Christopher Ianuario, Robert Ianuario and seven great-grandchildren. The Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Sandy McDonald celebrant. Casketbearers will be Rod Dinkins, Paul Ianuario, Jr., Christopher Ianuario, Rev. David Dinkins, Maj. Joseph Dinkins and Christopher Waters. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
