Augusta woman reports rape
An Augusta woman said she was raped by a male acquaintance Saturday morning when he refused to stop what began as consensual sexual activity, according to a Richmond County sheriff's report.
In the report, a 29-year-old woman said she invited a man to her Carver Drive home with the intent of having sex with him. When she discovered he didn't have contraception, she told the man to stop, but he continued, the report said.
Both individuals were under the influence of alcohol, the woman said in the report.
Initially she didn't want to prosecute, but she changed her mind Sunday morning, according to the report.
No charges had been filed Sunday.
Report says man was sprayed with mace
A 21-year-old Augusta man accused an acquaintance of spraying him in the face with mace early Sunday when they met to fight.
According to a Richmond County sheriff's report, Melvin Randall got into an argument with another man, and the two agreed to meet at the intersection of Woodbine and Washington roads to settle the matter.
Mr. Randall taunted the man, and in response the man pulled out a can of mace and sprayed him in the face, the report said.
Neither man wanted to press charges, according to police.
Co-workers cut man's arm, steal vehicle
While cleaning an Augusta retail store Friday, a man said two of his maintenance company co-workers cut him with a knife and stole his car.
David Hernandez, 22, went to get cleaning equipment from his car, which was parked behind the Target store at Augusta Exchange shopping center, according to a Richmond County sheriff's report.
Mr. Hernandez said two of his male co-workers, one armed with a knife, followed him.
Mr. Hernandez was attacked and cut on his right arm, and the two men stole his vehicle, the report said.
A deputy observed a small cut on Mr. Hernandez's right forearm. No arrests were made Sunday.
Man jumps from 2nd floor to elude police
An Augusta man ran from police during a traffic stop Friday, leading to a foot chase and the man jumping from a second-floor window.
According to a Richmond County sheriff's report, when he was approached by a deputy, Kenneth Gaines fled from his vehicle on the 1600 block of Hunter Street.
The deputy chased Mr. Gaines to his cousin's home on the same street. Trying to elude the officer, Mr. Gaines jumped from a second-story window, but the officer spotted him, the report said.
Mr. Gaines tried to punch the deputy, but swung and missed. He was arrested for obstruction.
According to the report, Mr. Gaines gave a false name to the deputy because he already had multiple warrants for his arrest.
Sewer line work to close Scott Nixon
The Davis Road, Scott Nixon Memorial Drive intersection will be closed from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. today, Tuesday and Wednesday while a sewer line is installed and road construction occurs along Walton Way Extension and Davis Road, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Northbound drivers on the extension will be detoured left onto Scott Nixon Memorial Drive, right onto Bobby Jones Expressway, right onto Washington Road, and right back onto Davis Road.
DHR to get public input at meeting
The Georgia Department of Human Resources board wants to hear what services Augusta-area residents think it should be providing by 2008, the agency said.
DHR oversees health and social services, including the Department of Family and Children Services.
The board will take comments from the public at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 Building Auditorium at Augusta Technical College. To speak at the hearing, sign up on arrival or online at dhr.georgia.gov. The deadline for signing up online is noon Tuesday.
