EVANS, Ga. - Mrs. Mary Emma Blanchard Anderson, 4275 Owens Road died on June 17, 2006. She now celebrates renewed life in heaven with her Lord Jesus Christ. Her parents, the late Walter and Rachel Chapman Blanchard and her brother, the late James Blanchard, preceded her in death. Mary Emma lived a good life of ninety-six years in Augusta and North Augusta. Family, friends, and church meant much to her. She blessed and influenced many lives and was a life-long source of strong support for her family. She served her church faithfully, teaching teenagers and young women in Sunday school and serving the Baptist Women's Missionary Union for many years. Mary Emma was active in church committee work and honored to serve as chairperson of the Sanctuary Building Committee for the present location of First Baptist Church of Augusta. A graduate of Augusta Junior College and Tift College, she taught high school in North Augusta, South Carolina. Mary Emma served in the Augusta Community as a committed volunteer for the Talmadge Memorial Hospital polio ward. She was an active member of the Forest Hills Garden Club and the Augusta Dental Wives Auxiliary. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and her grandsons-in-law. Edwards, 89, wife of the late Wallace Edgar Edwards and daughter of the late William Frederick Belch and Lillian Bilbrough Belch. Mrs. Edwards was a native of Hopewell, VA, where she spent most of her life. She resided at Brandon Wilde in Augusta for the past 8 years. She was an active member and past Worthy Matron of the Adah #7 Chapter of the Eastern Star in Hopewell and held the State Office of Grand Marshall. She was a director of the Eastern States Seniors Golf Association and along with her husband, Wally, organized and administered nearly 100 tournaments. Mrs. Edwards was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Hopewell, VA where she was very active with the Alter Guild. She was also a member of the Hopewell Women's Club. She enjoyed reading, golf, swimming and travel. Mrs. Edwards was very active with Brandon Wilde's newsletter, POTPOURRI, and she helped Chaplain Etheredge there with the Vespers Program. Mrs. Edwards is survived by her sons, Dr. Wallace S. Edwards of Augusta and Capt. (US Navy) Gary W. Edwards of Chesapeake, VA. Memorial services were held at Brandon Wilde with Rev. Kay was a teacher in the Aiken County School District. In 1989, she was nominated as South Carolina Teacher of the Year representing Warrenville Elementary School. She retired from the Aiken County School District as a teacher after twenty five years and continued that passion as a volunteer teacher for several more years. Prior to that time she worked for the Federal Government as an Assistant Office Manager for Social Security in Los Angeles, California; a Field Representative for Social Security in Fort Eustis, VA, and as a counselor in the State Department in Washington, DC. She wasa member of the Saint Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. She is survived by her loving and adoring husband of 60 years, R. A. "Doc" Aubrey; by her son, John C. Aubrey and his wife, Amy, of Houston, TX; her daughters Katherine "Cindy" Speicher and her husband, Jim, of Shawnee, KS and her daughter Linda Aubrey and her husband, Edward "Cal" Calhoun, of Raleigh, NC; as well as by her five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mary Emma lived a good life of ninety-six years in Augusta and North Augusta. Family, friends, and church meant much to her. She blessed and influenced many lives and was a life-long source of strong support for her family. She served her church faithfully, teaching teenagers and young women in Sunday school and serving the Baptist Women's Missionary Union for many years. Mary Emma was active in church committee work and honored to serve as chairperson of the Sanctuary Building Committee for the present location of FirstBaptist Church of Augusta. A graduate of Augusta Junior College and Tift College, she taught high school in North Augusta, South Carolina. Mary Emma served in the Augusta Community as a committed volunteer for the Talmadge Memorial Hospital polio ward. She was an active member of the Forest Hills Garden Club and the Augusta Dental Wives Auxiliary. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and her grandsons-in-law.
