He and his wife Thelma became actively involved in community and civic activities in Lakeland after his retirement from Marks Brothers Manufacturing in Augusta, moving here at age 49. Mr. Marks is a graduate of Georgia Tech. He served in the U. S. Navy in World War II with the rank of Lieutenant. He was a past member of the Board of Trustees of the Polk Museum of Art and an honorary member of the Board of Governors. Mr. Marks is the recipient of the Harrison-Hooks Lifetime achievement award given by the museum. He was a volunteer with Mayfair Kids. Mr. Marks was an active member of the Sheltered Workshop. He was president from 1972 to 1976 of the Polk Association for Retarded Citizens. He was a member of the Lakeland Yacht and Country Club and Lone Palm Golf Club. He was a member of Temple Emanuel and a former member of Adas Yeshurun Synagogue and Congregation Children of Israel. He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma in 2003. He is survived by three children; George Marks, Redwood City, CA, Roberta Watson, Hasting, FL and Sandy Hargraves, Lakeland, FL and four grandchildren. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church after the service. Mr. Johns was born in Middleton, Ohio in 1937 to Mr. and Mrs. James Joseph Johns of Franklin, Ohio. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church where he was part of the Joy Sunday School Class. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather dedicated to his family and the Lord. Mr. Johns retired in Florida after spending his working life as a business owner as well as middle and upper management in a corporate environment. He is survived by wife, Betty; son Philip ofAugusta; daughters, Debby Kalliokoski and her husband, Tom of Augusta and Jodi Stidham and her husband Jeff of Plant City; grandsons, Joe Adams, Kyle Johns, Kelly and Brice Clendening; great-granddaughter, Jordan Adams and great-grandson, Zane Baez. He is also survived by four sisters, Gwen South of Lebanon, Ohio, Nancy Alexander of Occoquan, Va., Gloria Dunn of Centerville, Ohio and Linda Redmon of Dayton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by father, mother and brother, David Johns. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the St. Joseph Hospice at 2260 Wrightsboro Rd., in Augusta, Ga. 30904 payable to St. Joseph Foundation Hospice.
