Woman is charged in stabbing

An Augusta woman remained in jail Tuesday after police said she stabbed a 55-year-old man in his back during the weekend.

Rebecca Edith Culver, 28, of the 400 block of Walker Street, is accused of stabbing Eddie Dean Heath, of the 100 block of Walker Street, according to a Richmond County sheriff's report.

Mr. Heath told police he and Ms. Culver had been involved in an argument involving her 2-year-old daughter, the report states.

At about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Mr. Heath told police, Ms. Culver came to his house armed with two small kitchen knives.

He said she "became very angry" and punched him in the mouth, the report said.

As he turned to walk away from her, she stabbed him in the back with one of the knives, he told police.

Mr. Heath said Ms. Culver then dropped both knives and ran away.

Mr. Heath told police he wished to prosecute, but he refused to speak with investigators about the incident, the report said.

Mr. Heath suffered a two-inch cut on his back, police said, but refused medical treatment from Gold Cross emergency personnel at the scene.

Ms. Culver faces felony aggravated assault charges and remained in jail without bond, a Richmond County jail official said Tuesday night.
